My name is Magaly Flores, and I am the Creative Director of Colibri Mexican Folkdance UK. I am also a Spanish Teacher, working in the Primary sector in Manchester promoting both the language and wider Hispanic culture.
I qualified as an art teacher in Mexico, specialising in dance education and I am a member of the IIDDMAC Dance Research Centre (Instituto de Investigacion y Difusion de la Danza Mexicana), which investigates and helps resurrect and protect the culture of folk dances across Mexico.
I am a member of the UNESCO accredited International Dance Council (CID).
I have a Degree in Education from Edge Hill University.
I regularly collaborate with different and diverse organisations including the Mexican Embassy in London, Instituto Cervantes in Manchester and Leeds, Manchester Central Library, Latin American House, Canning House in London, Luma Creations, Fusion de los Pueblos, The Peoples Heritage Museum Manchester, Liverpool Central Library, Glasgow Skypark, Edge Hill University Arts Centre, Durham University Symposium, Birmingham University, Walk The Plank Arts, Lingua Franca World Music Agency, Empowervenz, Aberdeen Multicultural Centre and many more.
I founded Colibrí Mexican Folkdance UK in 2016. Colibrí are now an established dance Company of native Mexicans showcasing traditional Mexican dance throughout the north-west of England and beyond.
My main aim as the Leader of Creative Industries within Red Global is to promote Mexican culture, connecting with other artists both here in UK and Worldwide and creating projects whereby our culture will become even more widely known and we can continue to feel proud of it.
My other interests include travel, photography and listening to music.
